Teito Klein is a former 'sklave' who is now a student at the elite Barsburg Military Academy and one of the few people able to use the Zaiphon. On the day of the final exam to become an officer of the Barsburg military Teito stumbles upon a dark secret pertaining to his long forgotten past. This leads him to attempt to assassinate Chief-of-Staff Ayanami, and get himself imprisoned. However, with the help of his best friend Mikage, he is able to escape on a hawkzile, although he is injured by Ayanami in the process.
