This was a race where tyres were critical and Michelin won, whilst the McLaren team again scored high in the overall technical stakes - despite losing Alain Prost through a mechanical problem in the second half. Nelson Piquet started on pole again but was unable to realise his or his car's full potential here. Derek Warwick meanwhile treats his home crowd to a splendid second place.
