The steamy jungles of the Amazon region reverberate with the sound of screeches, growls and grunts. These are the noises of creatures hidden in the trees vying with one another for survival in the forest. 1.Eyelash viper - So called because of the enlarged scales above its eyes, the eyelash viper hangs in the trees. Hunting at night it uses a blend of venom to catch small mammals. 2.Piranha - With razor sharp teeth and a ferocious appetite these fish attack and strip a carcass to the bone in a feeding frenzy. 3.Caiman - These giant members of the alligator family can reach up to 16 feet in length. Their snapping jaws are more than a match for their prey. 4.Fer de Lance - The fer-de-lance is the most dangerous snake of Central and South America, and causes more human deaths than any other American reptile. 5.Candiru - Earning the nickname the Vampire fish of Brazil the Candiru is arguably the most feared creature in the Amazon. 6.Vampire Bat - These bloodsuckers feed harmlessly on chicken and cattle, but a bite from one infected with rabies is often fatal for the unsuspecting victim. 7.Electric Eel - This fish is capable of generating powerful electric currents, which it uses for both defense and hunting its prey. 8.Bushmaster - The longest venomous snake in the western hemisphere, a female bushmaster aggressively defends her nest of eggs. 9.White lipped Peccary- With large teeth and a barrel-like body, these wild boars will actively charge and chase down any animal or human when threatened. 10.Poison arrow frog- Deadly toxins secreted in the frog's skin act as a defense for these bite sized creatures. The toxin is so strong that traditional hunters have exploited its properties for centuries. 11.Harpy Eagle- Almost half the size of an adult human and reaching speeds of fifty miles an hour, the harpy eagle banks and turns through the trees to snatch unsuspecting monkeys. 12.Bullet Ant - This giant ant has the most painful and debilitating sting known for any insect.
