Jericho Movie In Development
Geplaatst op 16 januari 2009 14:54 door gsprimoAlmost a year after its second cancellation, “Jericho†aims to say nuts to the television industry by making the colossal jump to the world of movies.
Speaking with IF Magazine, executive producer Jon Turtletaub confirmed that a movie for the post-apocalyptic drama is currently in the works that will go beyond the small Kansas town, endeavoring to explore the rest of American society following their bombardment. It’s not clear if any of the “Jericho†cast will be back for the project should it go ahead, although it would undoubtedly include a few nods to the previous events of the series.
“We’re developing a feature for ‘Jericho,’†Turteltaub told the magazine. “It would not require you to have seen the TV show, but it get into life after an event like this on a national scale. It would be the bigger, full on American version of what’s going on beyond the town in Jericho.â€
The series, which was cancelled at the end of its first year, amassed a substantial following and the announcement that there would be no more “Jericho†quickly prompted one of the largest fan campaigns in television history. In the following weeks, CBS was literally bombarded with peanuts all in the name of saving the show. The sheer quantity of the shipments soon led to the announcement that “Jericho†would be back for a trial period of sorts with the potential for more.
However, after the first three episodes – almost half the season – leaked to the web weeks before “Jericho†re-launched, the show suffered from low ratings when it eventually aired and CBS chose to end the series for a second time. Thankfully, as a solid thank you to the fans of the show, an alternate ending was devised to at least bring some degree of closure to each of the characters.
Despite the deep sense of satisfaction about the way the show ended though, there was a deep hunger for more and the scope was left wide open for a follow-up. Now, with reports that exactly that kind of continuation is being worked on, it proves once again that you just can’t tread on “Jericho.â€
